Cape Mentelle has a rich history of exceptional quality and consistency with Cabernet Sauvignon from a pioneering producer in Margaret River in the early 1970's to a benchmark producer today. A single vineyard wine with the style evolving over time, the aim always to define a wine displaying classic varietal character and opulence, strong regional identity and with the structure and fruit intensity to improve with extended cellaring. -

"A glorious cabernet, its blackcurrant, cedar and spice bouquet leading into a seamless, perfectly balanced palate with cassis and redcurrant fruit framed by cedary oak. It is the amazing tannins, softly woven into the fabric of the fruit, that give this wine its unique class."Rating 98 - James Halliday, The Weekend Australian Magazine, James Halliday's Top 100, (NOV/2014)
"It’s probably my favourite Australian wine region – physically and for the wines it produces. … Nutty oak in support, dark fruit, chocolate, leaf and floral perfume. Medium bodied, but pretty dense this vintage – feels a little more serious – turning up the heft and ripeness just a little. It’s kind of glossy yet laden with tannin, mineral and grunt. Has length and impact, while maintain its typical well mannered charm. Feels very much like a long term release." Rating 95 - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front (AUG/2014)
Winery Tasting Notes
Deep complex and intense black currant, rolled tobacco, violets, wet slate, dutch cocao, iodine and wild thyme
The characteristic fine yet firm structural tannins frame the fruit perfectly and carry the flavours and balance the mineral elements from the vineyard to provide an incredibly long and classically structured finish.
Roasted rack of lamb, parsnips, carrots and rosemary served on Paris mash with a Cabernet jus.
