Cape Mentelle takes a minimal approach towards this classic Margaret River blend. The aim is to preserve as much fruit intensity and regional character as possible, whilst providing a full flavoured distinctive white wine. The style accentuates the fresh fruit characters of both varieties with the added complexity and palate weight offered by a small portion of barrel fermentation.

So pure and so intense. This should be the benchmark for this style from Margaret River. It all comes to life with that crunchy acid to lift the vibrant tropical fruits. In the words of Cape Mentelle winemaker Rob Mann, the 2013 vintage in Margaret River was an “early, short and fast harvest marked by incredibly low yields”. A small amount of this wine (7%) is matured in new and old oak. It’s a sweet, generous, perfumed nose but put it in your mouth and the wine’s steely dryness asserts itself. This looks the goods. There’s ample flavour of lime, passionfruit, thistles, passionfruit and gravel, but as much exuberant, jubey flavour as there is – texture is the key here. It’s blooming smooth. Pale straw with green hues.
Aromas of lychee, lime, grapefruit, honeysuckle, blackcurrant and a hint of wet stone.
Juicy, clean and fresh with a talcy pithy structure balancing the rich fruit flavours of limes, passionfruit and honeysuckle. The texture is creamy and the finish bright, long and elegant.
Best consumed young and fresh.
