Hennessy VSOP is a blend of 60 different ‘eaux-de-vie’ aged up to 15 years and noted for its balance and sophistication. In 1817, the future King George IV of England asked Hennessy to supply him with a “very superior, old and pale cognac”. By the end of the 19th century, VSOP, as it had become known, had firmly established its reputation among the nobility. The product of a gradual blend of over 60 eaux de vie taken from the four leading vineyards in the Cognac region, VSOP is slowly matured in old barrels from which most of the tannin has been extracted.
On the nose, the first fragrances perceived are soft spices such as vanilla, clove and cinnamon. Then, delicate toasted notes follow, arising from the maturation in oak barrels.
On the palate, the natural balance of strength and smoothness creates a harmonious blend in which maturity combines with vigor. The structure is softened by a suggestion of fresh grape character. The highlight of tasting Hennessy V.S.O.P is the long lasting finish, revealing the natural balance of the blend - testament to a superior cognac.
The delicate, smooth flavours and aromas of V.S.O.P Privilège mean that this is an ideal cognac that can be enjoyed straight. Around the world V.S.O.P Privilège is also enjoyed more and more as a long or “High Ball” mixed drink. The favourite mixers are mineral water (still or sparkling), soda water, ginger ale and tonic water.
