From one of the few remaining family Houses in Champagne, the Special Cuvée is Bollinger’s statement to the world.

This is the most accomplished expression of the Bollinger style, in the ability to recreate year after year, a blend that is constant in style & quality, in its bouquet, body, balance, vinosity and finesse. It is on this wine that the House bases its difference, makes its qualitative choices and means to be judged.

Expert Reviews

"Bollinger has more than 700,000 magnums of reserve wines, all with cork closures and aged for between five and 15 years, which contribute 5-10 per cent of the Special Cuvee. Once tiraged (bottled), the wine spends three years before being disgorged. Small wonder it is magnificently complex and rich, with superb length and intensity, and the finish that simply says drink more. "

Rating 95 - James Halliday, Weekend Australian (10/DEC/2011)

"Absolutely true to form: luxurious, complex and rich aromas with mouth-filling, creamy flavours thanks barrel fermentation of the base wines, a high proportion of pinot noir and older reserve wines in the blend, and three years lees-ageing. The wide spread of prices indicated here reflects that fact that Bollinger, a sought-after brand, is currently being imported by more than one company and competition is fierce."

Max Allen, Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine (01/NOV/2011)

Winery Tasting Notes

Grand Crus and Premier Crus

Grapes are sourced from 30 Crus, approximately 75% of which are Bollinger's own vineyard.

80% of these Crus are either Grand Cru or Premier Cru.

On average the blend comprise 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15 Pinot Meunier.

Winemaking Notes

Only the Cuvee (first pressing) is used - in common with all Bollinger wines. First fermentation is done in steel tanks. Follwing second fermentation and lees ageing for at least 3 years, a light dosage of 6-98 grams per litre is added. After disgorgement the wine rests in Bollinger's cellars for at least 3 montsh prior to shipping.

Brand Profile Image

Family owned and controlled, Bollinger is dedicated to producing a consistent and distinctive style of Champagne. Bollinger’s wines are predicated by their unique vineyards: rich, assertive and with great power yet always with finesse.

To reinforce its commitment to style and quality, Bollinger launched its Charter of Ethics and Quality in 1992 (reinforced by its Ten Commitments), which guarantees the continuity of the policy of the House for the years to come.

In 2006 the prestigious French wine magazine La Revue du Vin de France surveyed the most significant group of sommeliers and wine writers for them to nominate the top 50 Champagne Houses which would be regarded as the most responsible for the greatness of Champagne as a unique wine region. Bollinger was selected as the number one House by this group.
