Expert Reviews

Good colour; the bouquet has cassis fruit with a little leafy complexity; full-bodied, the palate shows the class of the wine, with a cascading array of black fruit and savoury complexity coming to the fore; incredibly long and intense with cool acidity providing focus on the finish. Drink to 2020. Rating 96 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2010

Winery Tasting Notes

The Range

The Reserve wines are only placed in bottle when the highest standards have been reached. As a result, vintages have passed that have not seen a Reserve wine being produced.

Palate

Hand picked ultra premium fruit from low yielding vines. Rich, velvety mouthfeel displaying classic Margaret River characteristics.

Vineyard

Close to harvest, the fruit is checked on a weekly basis to ensure the ideal balance of fruit flavour to tannin structure. Individual patches of select outstanding fruit are hand-picked for these Reserve wines.

Typically both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are sourced from vineyards in the Wilyabrup sub-region. The hallmark attributes are medium to long term cellaring potential and expressive varietal fruit. These outstanding wines are naturally limited in release.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Brookland Valley is considered a benchmark winemaker of the world-renowned Margaret River region. And not only in our corner of the world: the highly regarded James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009 Edition has named us "Winery of the Year". We are truly flattered and driven to uphold a reputation that is only as good as each new vintage.

The Brookland Valley winery and cellar door is situated in the heart of the Margaret River, in the Wilyabrup sub-region along Caves Road.

Our story began in 1984 when vineyard consultants Brian Croser and Tony Jordan were employed to assist in the establishment of Brookland Valley. The estate vineyard was planted with classic cultivars Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Brookland Valley now has enviable fruit sources from premium vineyards in five of Margaret River's six sub-regions, providing a brilliant palette of flavours from which to craft our wines. The vineyards spread over the length of Margaret River from Yallingup in the north to Karridale in the south, representing the very best flavours of the region.

From the beginning our winemaking philosophy has been clear:100% pure Margaret River wines, crafted from classic cultivars with minimal winemaking intervention. This allows the characteristics of each particular variety to be a focus, and the resultant wines to truly reflect their terroir.

We are honoured to be the region's most highly decorated producer in Australian wine shows, and named “Winery of the Year” in the highly regarded James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009 Edition.
