Expert Reviews

Can fairly be said to represent the state of the art of chardonnay in Australia today, without in any way diminishing the stature of single vineyard wines such as Leeuwin Estate and Giaconda; has exceptional focus and intensity without sacrificing elegance; fruit, oak and acidity are seamless, the palate of extreme length. Drink to 2018. Rating 97 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011

Wine Background

Each vintage the winemakers select the best Chardonnay to carry the “Eileen Hardy” label. Compassionate, generous and determined, Eileen Hardy’s spirit for life and adventure continues as the very heart of Hardys. From family matriarch to beloved pioneer of the Australian wine industry, her dedication for excellence still weaves its way through every Hardys wine and provides the inspiration behind its enduring success.

Vintage Condition

The 2008 release is crafted from grapes sourced from the cool climate regions of the Yarra Valley and Tasmania.

The 2008 was characterised by very dry conditions and generally warm temperatures. The result is a Chardonnay with great flavour expression and good retention of natural acidity.

Grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed before being filled directly into high quality French oak barriques for natural barrel fermentation. An average of 40% underwent malolactic fermentation until the acid balance and texture were in harmony. The wine was then allowed to mature for 9 months in order to build texture.

The 2008 Eileen Hardy is a Chardonnay that sets the style trend exemplifying cool climate Chardonnay at its very best.
