2006 Classic Clare Shiraz arises from old vines with small yields of intensely flavoured fruit. Complex, rich and bold -a wine of great textural depth, flavour and vibrancy. The growing season for the vintage is widely acknowledged as a very good season for the vine. The ideal soil moisture coupled with a warm growing season and low cropping levels meant balanced vines produced very flavoursome, clean and evenly ripened fruit. This is a carefully hand-made wine that reflects some of the best the Clare Valley has to offer. This release, as always with this label, shows its oak, but its fruit notes are so mellow and seductive that all is entirely forgiven. Mint, leather, blackberry and plum. Creamy/toasty oak. Flows effortlessly through the mouth before finishing with an emphatic burst. Rating 95 - Drink by 2020 - CM, Australian Wine Companion (MAR/2014)
Winery Tasting Notes
Opaque red with a fine and persistent bead. Deep garnet in colour.
Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz flaunts a fruit lift reminiscent of dark plum, complemented by aromas of liquorice, leather and truffle.
This is a mature red wine palate, exceptional in its depth of flavour and intensity with characters of prune, camphor wood and forest floor. A rich and complex aged red wine with elegant tannin structure. Liqueured to a point of luscious texture and yet retaining a dry natural tannin/acid finish.
Smoked turkey, rare roast beef and aged cheese.
