Winery Tasting Notes
Pale to mid straw with a youthful green tint.
Fruit sourced from the Wilyabrup vineyard has contributed intensely varietal stonefruit and melon aromatics with fruit from the cooler vineyard site south of the Margaret River township contributing citrus notes to the final blend. Time on yeast lees and partial barrel fermentation has added delicate but complex notes of fresh toast, gun flint, shortbread and spice.
The palate is remarkably tight and fresh with tremendous purity and length of fruit. Barrel fermentation on solids and maturation on yeast lees adds savoury complexity and a lovely textural element to the end wine.
The 2006 growing season in the Margaret River winegrowing region was one of the coolest and longest on record. Fruit for this wine was sourced from two main vineyards – one in the historic Wilyabrup area of Margaret River and the second south of the township. Both vineyards have consistently produced Reserve Grade Chardonnay with fruit from the 2006 vintage being no exception. The majority of Chardonnay vines on these vineyards are of the Gin Gin clone which is renowned for producing intensely flavoured Chardonnay in the Margaret River region.
