In 1994, the De Bortoli family planted the BellaRiva vineyard on the King River at the base of the Victorian Snowfields. With strong Italian heritage of both our family and region, Mediterranean varieties were chosen and planted.
This new range of wines celebrates both the natural beauty of the King Valley and the vibrancy and innovation of this emerging wine region. BellaRiva in Italian means beautiful riverbank - a fitting description for the spectacular location of De Bortoli’s picturesque vineyards on 3.5 kms of King River frontage.
This wine is more about style than variety. It is meant to be bright, rustic, savoury, interesting and above all, delicious.
"Bright, light red; the blend works very well indeed, the symbiotic red fruit flavours showing no sign of green fruit; a delicious light-bodied palate ready and waiting for a dish of fresh pasta."90 Points - James Halliday, James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, July 2013
"A juicy, easydrinking number in a pleasing but undemanding combination of sweet fruit and more savoury elements making for a pleasantly versatile food
wine."Sunday Tasmanian, February 2013
Sangiovese and Merlot. Both widely planted in Europe. Sangiovese the native Italian, Merlot originally from France. In Australia very suited to the King Valley as well as the more maritime climates. A small addition of Tempranillo from our King Valley estate for a little more ‘Mediterranean’ feel.
Colour
Red with good garnet edge.
Aroma
Complex, slightly rustic earthy aromas, autumnal, brooding.
Palate
Savoury palate with good texture and length. Dreaming pasta!
Cellaring
Enjow now or cellar for three to four years.
Suggested Cuisine
Spaghetti alla puttanesca.
De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.
Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.
Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
