Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Bright crimson red.

Aroma

Fresh and fruit-driven, with mulberry and cherry fruits and hints of spice and dried herbs. Subtle cedary oak provides additional complexity.

Palate

The 2009 Poet’s Corner Merlot shows generous mulberry fruits with underlying subtle vanillin oak. Sweet fruit on the mid-palate coupled with soft, ripe tannins and a persistent finish makes this wine a great option for your next BBQ or casual event.

Winemaking Note

Fruit parcels were closely monitored during the ripening period, and harvested only when fruit flavours had reached the desired intensity and profile. The grapes were crushed and destemmed and then inoculated with a neutral wine yeast to initiate fermentation. Some ferments were conducted with a proportion of whole berries, to provide attractive berry fruit characters.

Fermentation on skins was undertaken for a period of between eight and twelve days at temperatures of 18-25ºC before pressing. After a short maturation period, suitable parcels were selected on the basis of freshness and vibrancy of fruit flavour.
