Expert Reviews

Raisined, biscuity and nutty, the rancio obvious; seems slightly drier than the last blend tasted (this was blend and bottled in '14). The spirit can catch the throat - don't smoke while drinking this wine. 500ml. James Halliday, Rating 93, 27th July 2015

Winery Tasting Notes

Classic tawny colour with streaks of amber.

An array of aromas are on display with dark raisined fruits, mocha, hints of vanillin oak and nutty aged barrel characters.

Initially luscious with richly concentrated fruit and nut flavours. Nuances of mocha and coffee have integrated over time with vanillin oak to develop complex, barrel aged flavours in harmony resulting in a smooth, lingering drying finish.

Cellaring Potential

With an average age of 21 years, Old Boys Barrel Aged Tawny can be cellared for extended maturation in bottle but is blended to be enjoyed on opening at any time.

Food Matching

Tawnys are a traditional after dinner wine that can be savoured with a platter of cheeses or a rich fruit or chocolate dessert.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
