The Yarra Valley’s very own opera diva, Dame Nellie Melba, enchanted the world as Mimi in ‘La Boheme’. This range of wines pays tribute to Melba in one of her most well-known operas, based in the characterful Latin Quarter of 1880’s Paris.
Lots of people don’t really understand that Pinot Gris is quite aromatic and charming when grown in cool climates.
The cooler seasons certainly favour the aromatic varieties. Hand picked, fermented in both large casks (5,800L) and some smaller barrels (225 & 500L). Wild yeast, some lees re-suspension for creaminess, complexity and sauvage.

Act 3 wowed audiences with its textural restraint last year. A hard act to follow, but what a show of exuberant florals, poached pear and cloves!

"The 2011 La Boheme Act Three Pinot Gris and Friends is mainly composed of Pinot Gris with a hint of other aromatic varietals. The nose is delicately scented of jasmine, Golden Delicious apples and nectarines over nuances of orange blossoms and mace. Dry, light-bodied and crisp in the mouth, it has a good amount of fresh apple and peach flavors, finishing medium-long and clean."
Rating 86 - Lisa Perotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate #201, (JUN/2012)
"One of the new labels under the De Bortoli banner. It's mainly pinot gris with an assortment of unidentified aromatic varieties. It's more about the aromas than the palate, which is lean and long with a fresh zing following through to the finish. A hot-afternoon quaffer with plenty to like."
Ray Jordan, The West Australian - Top 100 Wines, (DEC/2011)
"Unexpectedly, has more aroma and flavour than its sibling Sauvignon Semillon Rolle, the length likewise greater; crisp pear/pear skin flavours and lemony acidity provide the driving power."
Rating 88 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013, (JUL/2012)
"...All the apple and pear stuff going on in the glass that you’d expect. But what you don’t expect is the crispness and acidity to be worked so well on a bottle with an RRP of $20. The only downside to this was we didn’t discover it during the warmer months when this would go down pretty easy."
