The Yarra Valley’s very own opera diva, Dame Nellie Melba, enchanted the world as Mimi in ‘La Boheme’. This range of wines pays tribute to Melba in one of her most well-known operas, based in the characterful Latin Quarter of 1880’s Paris.

I don’t know of other winemakers who blend these varieties together but who cares. As you drive south from Bordeaux towards the Mediterranean, you come across lots of varieties and blends that are just the ticket on a warm day. This is our version. I should really have called it ‘the road trip!’

Act One is a blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon and 9% Rolle (aka Vermentino). It’s quite Euro in style - delicate, faintly aromatic, subtle, textural and delicious. We tried this at several temperatures the other day. At about 10ºC, it’s bang on! Steve Webber, Chief Winemaker.

Expert Reviews

"The low alcohol has stripped the wine of varietal character, something that may have been intended, but also takes away the finish."

Rating 86 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013, (JUL/2012)

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
