Deen De Bortoli created his Vat Series with the idea of developing a range of delicious, full-flavoured wines at an affordable price. Deen personally selected the blends and chalked the numbers on the vats to identify them. The Vat Series includes traditional varietal wines and also wines made from interesting, newer varieties to Australia.

Expert Reviews

"...What makes the shiraz so good? A combination of good fruit and outstanding winemaking skills. The 2010, for example, contains fruit from many regions, including the NSW central ranges, Heathcote, Port Phillip and King Valley, Victoria, and the Limestone Coast, South Australia. This wideranging blend makes a vibrant, round, juicy, soft shiraz of impressive quality at the price."

Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times, July 2013

"Excellent weeknight quaffer from a label that punches above its weight. Balanced and flavoursome with lashings of black fruit, peppery notes, supple tannins and good length."Kerry Skinner, Illawarra Mercury, July 2013

"De Bortoli’s 'Deen' range can be a source of some excellent value wines. This release has good aroma and flavour. It feels smooth-enough in the mouth too. It’s blackberried, a little warm with alcohol, has some coal and dried herbs notes and withes with a confident burst of tarry fruit flavour. There’s nothing sophisticated about it but the flavour/price equation is well in its favour." Rating 89 - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, June 2013

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
