Deen De Bortoli created his Vat Series with the idea of developing a range of delicious, full-flavoured wines at an affordable price. Deen personally selected the blends and chalked the numbers on the vats to identify them. The Vat Series includes traditional varietal wines and also wines made from interesting, newer varieties to Australia.

Expert Reviews

"A light and restrained sauvignon blanc, yet one which really shows some nice classic savvy characters of gooseberry, citrus and faint tropical fruitiness. The fine acid contributes to a refreshing vitality which makes for such appealing current drinking. Great value." Ray Jordan, West Australian, January 2015

"A simple, straight forward style offering bright and juicy aromas and flavours of ripe tropical fruits with citrusy notes adding a fresh, clean lift. Try it with fresh asparagus in a simple brown butter sauce" Mercury, December 2014

"Here’s something different; a sauv blanc that doesn’t taste like syrupy kiwi fruit or that juice that comes out of the two fruit tins that you would expect to get at this price. Another multi region blend, this one shows tropical fruits and fragrant florals with just a touch of dried herbs in there. Its medium dry with a crisp finish that is just begging for fresh prawns." BJ Foley, Townsville Bulletin, Cairns Weekend Post, November 2014

"As savvys go, you won’t find too many better-value wines. This is so clean and vibrant, with lovely melony characters on the nose and a light edge of citrus and grapefruit. Simple and appealing." 90 Points Ray Jordan, West Australian, November 2013

Brand Profile Image

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
