Yarra Valley Estate Grown wines are sourced from the De Bortoli family vineyards at Dixons Creek in the cool-climate Yarra Valley. The mature, low yielding vines deliver exceptional quality fruit to the winery. This is preserved during winemaking with gentle, low intervention techniques to produce wine with varietal detail and purity. The idea is to create wine with a ‘sense of place’.

Fragrant and aromatic with strong graphite and white pepper characteristics.

Expert Reviews

"De Bortoli Syrah is stalky and spicy and challenging to those raised on sweet, jammy luscious reds. The last one I tried - the 2008 - pushed things a little too far for my humble tastes but I like this 2010 rather alot. Not that it's an easygoing wine. It's anything but. It's smoky, stalky, ashen, full of chicory and graphite-like flavours and grainy and bitter on the finish. You'll either love or loathe it. I love it for its perfume, its intensity, its complexity and most of all, for its ability to captivate. Ripe fruit, texture and bustling spice. Wine as a happening thing."

Rating 94 - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, (JAN/2012)

"Light, bright clear crimson; a juicy, light- to medium-bodied syrah, with a texture more akin to pinot noir than conventional shiraz, likewise its perfumed aromaticity; effortless fine and long on the palate, and good tannins on the finish."

Rating 94 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013, (JUL/2012)

"A fine shiraz made in modern Yarra style, with lots of stems in the ferment, giving a peppery, vegetal aroma. This will be more complex and perfumed in a couple of years. Intense and flavoursome with lots of nuances and soft tannins."

Rating 93 - Huon Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald, (MAY/2012)

"A supple wine, bright red in colour with purple rim. Fragrant and aromatic bouquet, with strong graphite and white pepper characteristics. The structured palate displays rich spicy fruit with dark berries and integrated ripe tannins.

Nick Stock, Gourmet Traveller Wine, (MAR/2012)

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
