Provenance: ★ ★ ★ ★ This recognition is the fruit of the firm's unwavering dedication to two essential values: excellence and independence. Each of the wines which bears our name is treated as an impeccable ambassador of our history. For five generations, the descendants have been equally demanding, remaining loyal to the strategy initiated from the very beginning by the firm's founder.

Excellence means the rigorous selection of the vinegrowers the firm works with, but also by strict selection of the grapes bought from them. Family members keep a close eye on all the operations, including details of the vinification; it also means that the family, in complete independence, chooses the blends which give birth to the wines. Excellence and independence are closely linked. One guarantees the continuing existence of the other and vice versa.

Expert Reviews

"...The 1996 vintage with its combination of complex, ripe fruit characters balanced by fine, yet astonishingly high acidity has drawn comparisons with what is regarded as the vintage of the century, 1928. Not having had the pleasure of tasting a wine from 1928, I can say that of all the wonderful wines from the 1996 vintage, this Pol Roger Blanc de Blanc is a favourite."

Winery Tasting Notes

CuvÈe Brut Chardonnay is a classic ëBlanc de Blancsí, vinified 100% from Chardonnay grapes selected from the Grands Crus of the CÙte des Blans: Cramant, Le Mesnil, Oger, Avize and Oiry. Many of the vineyards from which the cuvÈe is drawn are in the exclusive ownership of Pol Roger, whose total domaine extends to over 85 hectares and includes several sites of 100% Èchelle (the highest grade).

The 1996 vintage shows all the hallmarks of a truly outstanding year. The features of the vintage were a high natural sugar content in the grapes (averaging 10.4º) and an excellent level of acidity c.10º, indicating an exceptional overall balance and long ageing potential.
