Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon has established itself as one of Australia's favourite premium red wines. Since its first vintage in 1976, Koonunga Hill's reputation has been built upon widespread acclaim, including its most recent accolade - Great Value Red Wine of the Year - awarded to the
1999 vintage at the 2001 International Wine Challenge in London. Koonunga Hill is very much a reflection of the Penfolds winemaking style and philosophy. Sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, the wine is known for its full-flavoured style with excellent varietal fruit, firm but well-rounded structure and balanced oak.

The bouquet has good depth with dark berry fruits and a dash of sweet oak, a theme carried on through the generous plum and blackberry fruit of the palate, accompanied by supple tannins and controlled oak. If it ain't broke... Rating 90, Drink by 2008, Tasted 2002, James Halliday
Winery Tasting Notes
The source regions for this wine experienced good winter rain, setting the season off well for spring vine development. Exceptional heat in January extended through the late summer months until rain brought relief in most regions in mid-March. Penfolds' access to well managed vineyards across the country enabled a careful
selection of premium-quality blending components for the final wine.
Matured in used American and French oak barrels.

A youthful mix of varietal Shiraz cinnamon and clove, standing above Cabernet berried notes meshed with dark cherry and summer pudding fruits. An element of appealing savoury oak is evident, providing structure and complexity.
The palate displays a commendable balance of vibrant fruit and well-handled oak, with trademark mid-palate richness. The wine has impressive weight, length and persistence of flavour with stewed plum, rhubarb and dark berry prominent.
