Winery Tasting Notes
Bright crimson red.
Stewed, fleshy, dark and berry fruits - raspberry, plum and cherry. Elemental cocoa powder aroma at this stage, with dark chocolate, mocha and ground coffee about to unfold. Youthful.
Expansive and mouth-filling. Concentrated, with chewy ripe tannins and lingering sweet fruit. Flavours of pan forte -- warm spices, chocolate, dried fig and dates. A benchmark
Bin 28 with excellent medium to long-term cellaring prospects -- an impressive leap from the 1997.
Robust and generously flavoured, Penfolds Bin 28 is an unashamedly traditional, warm-climate, Australian shiraz - a showcase for the variety. With a pedigree dating back to 1962, Bin 28 is a classic Penfolds style developed under the late Max Schubert’s leadership.
The wine took its name from the famous Kalimna Vineyard, purchased by Penfolds in 1945. Today’s Bin 28 is a multi-district blend, with the Barossa Valley always represented. Shiraz takes centre stage, with oak in support. The best vintages have remarkable longevity for a wine in Bin 28’s price bracket.
