Lakes Folly Cabernets 1999 (2 x 750mL) Hunter Valley, NSW.

Savoury, stylish and youthful, the tannins have settled down considerably on this wine – now fine grained and chewy. Primary fruits of blackberry are still evident, but beginning to give way to more complexed bottle development.

Expert Reviews

Medium red-purple; the bouquet is sweet and ripe, with a distinctive mix of small, dark berry fruit and earth. The palate opens with ripe, soft, fleshy fruit before distinctly regional savoury/earthy characters take over towards the finish; the parts need time to come together. Rating 90 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2002

Distinctly Hunter, with leather and earth floor tones, but still displaying good primary fruits of black cherry and raspberry, coupled with sweet cedar and cigar box aromas.

Primary fruits of blackberry are still evident, but beginning to give way to more complexed bottle development. Remarkably good drinking at present considering in its mid life phase, this wine will of course improve further and drink magnificently in another 3-5 years+.
