Rating 95 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2008
Here the wine spends 38 months in oak, in the manner of the super- cuvees of Guigal; in the same way, it achieves miraculous balance, the fruit supple and sinuous; delicious blackcurrant flavours intermingle with cedar, mocha and cigar box; fine tannins to close.
"A five star rating", John Fordham, The Sunday Telegraph, 26/11/2006
Arguably the best Odyssey to date, its rich concentrated flavours and elegant finish entitling it to a five star rating.
"An awesome wine", Tony Harper, Brisbane News
It's an awesome wine- quite closed and insular. It shows a little more oak than its siblings, and far more power, sinew and concentration. It is exceptional...
"Iconic Coonawarra", Kerry Skinner, Illawarra Mercury, 21/02/2007
An exquisite vintage to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this iconic Coonawarra red. Intense fruit notes, tobacco and vanillan oak characters flow on to the palate and layer-on-layer of black berries, plums and background chocolate flavours, integrated sweet oak and silky tannins. Drink it with kangaroo fillet.
"Ideal gift for a genuine aficionado...", David Ellis, Your weekly wine column, 29/01/2007
The 2002 has a nose of sweet oak, ripe dark mulberry and spicy plum, with flavours of ripe fruit, sweet tobacco leaf, and hints of dark chocolate and mocha. Make it that ideal gift for a genuine aficionado and hope you'll score at least a glass on its own, or with a selection of tasty cheeses.
Rating 92 - "Straight out of a hedonist's handbook...", Campbell Mattinson, Winefront Monthly website, 22/05/2007
Thick, juicy, saturated wine, full of dark fruit flavour and dusty, chalky, elongated tannins. Plush, chocolaty, rich and generous. Look hard and you see signs of dried herbs. But essentially this is a well structured, well oaked, dramatic wine of little complexity. It's straight out of the hedonist's handbook. Quite an amazing result from the ultra cool 2002 season. Drink: 2007-2015.
"Top notch drop", Winsor Dobbin, Sun Herald, 03/12/2006
Coonawarra produces outstanding cabernets and this is one of the best, with lashings of rich fruit and sweet oak tannins to ensure it will cellar for a decade.
