Clarendon Hills `Hickinbotham` Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 (6 x 750mL), SA.

Provenance: ★ ★ ★ ★ The Hickinbotham family are instrumental players in Australian wine history, and Alan Hickinbotham bought this estate in 1960.

Clarendon Hills sources wines from this stately vineyard to produce a single site Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and old-vine Grenache – all detailed by the Hickinbotham family name.

Richly compact soils provide depth and a vineyard unique signature across the varietal spectrum

Highly elevated in the sub district of Clarendon - the vines ripen later than most and develop individuality as a result

Dry grown vines planted in 1960 are hand picked thereby culturing whole berry, wild yeast fermentation. This increases the retention of the grape’s varietal essence and minimises bitter tannin extract. All pressings are returned to the barrel and bottled onsite without fining or filtration.

Expert Reviews

"The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Hickinbotham Vineyard is the most backward and Pauillac-like of this trio. Its inky/purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas of cedar, black currant liqueur, flowers, licorice, and a notion of new oak in the background. This full-throttle, powerful, concentrated, well-delineated Cabernet Sauvignon should be at its finest between 2010-2025."
