Enjoying your favourite wine can be a simple everyday luxury or it can lead you on a lifetime journey. For Douglas and Hughes, its both. Over the last couple of decades they've gained International recognition for their careers as producers, marketers and educators, however their greatest reward is opening an old favourite to share with friends over a tasty meal. While we each have our own favourites for different reasons, the Douglas Hughes Series is a celebration of the wines that launched their passion for honest, mouth-filling flavours. Series 163 is a timeless classic; a rich Barossa Chardonnay that takes you back to the days when should pads were a fashion necessity.

Winery Tasting Notes
The appearance is medium to deep straw colour with brilliant clarity and bright gold highlights.
The bouquet shows ripe nectarine and white peach fruit with background complexity of lanolin and baked vanilla custard. French and American oak adds a hint of spice and extended lees contact gives a roasted cashew nut aroma.
The palate is classically structured, full bodied with some firm tannin and soft acidity from malo-lactic fermentation in barrel. The opening palate has rounded peach fruit with a hint of grapefruit tang on the edge. The middle has good weight and smooth nutty character with a long dry finish and oaky complexity.
This style of Chardonnay is suited to year round enjoyment. Over the summer months its ideal as a casual pre dinner aperitif on the deck served with smoked salmon or some soft cheese and water crackers. During the cooler months, make sure not to over-chill to maximize the natural bouquet and flavour.
We’ve made this wine with the view to enjoying it over the next 24 months so it has a smooth rounded palate structure. However it has sufficient complexity and weight to cellar for another 5 years if you’re patient.
